Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you’re planning ahead, arranging a resting place, or seeking comfort after loss, we’ve gathered answers to the questions families ask most often.

Must I be Catholic to be buried at Buffalo Catholic Cemeteries?

No. Any person is welcome to be laid to rest in our cemeteries. We do not turn anyone away based on religion or background.

Can I walk in and purchase space in the cemetery?

We kindly ask that you call the office of the cemetery where you wish to purchase a space so a Family Service Councilor can reach out and schedule an appointment with you. The counselor may be assisting another family or preparing for an upcoming appointment, so scheduling ensures that they are available to give you their full attention.

I see a crypt or niche with no lettering on it. Does that mean it’s available for purchase?

Not necessarily. A crypt or niche without a name or reserved sign does not automatically mean it is available. The best way to confirm what is open is to meet with one of our Family Service Counselors, who can review the options with you and help select an available space.

What are the vases and flowers I see on the front of crypts and niches?

These are part of our floral program. Vases for both crypts and niche fronts are available through a one-time lease purchase. If a vase is placed on the front of an interior or exterior crypt/niche, it must be filled with flowers from our floral program. To become part of our floral program, reach out to the office where you are choosing for enrollment to begin. The floral program can be purchased for varying lengths of time: one season, two seasons, one year, or five years. For vases leased on a columbarium, visitors are permitted to place real flowers or flowers of there choice with no requirement of the cemetery floral program.

I have the remains of a loved one. Do I need to come with a funeral director for the placement?

No, a funeral director is not required. To place your loved one, simply call the cemetery office to schedule the date and time that works best for you.
When you call, a cemetery staff member will ask a few basic questions about your loved one. If the family would like, a member of the cemetery team can provide a short prayer service (10-15 minutes) at the time of placement.

What to expect on the day of placement

  • When you arrive, please have family members remain in their vehicles in the main
    parking lot.
  • One person should check in at the office to let staff know the family has arrived.
  • The grounds team will guide you to the placement location in our cemetery. Scheduling guidelines

We ask that you schedule placement no earlier than two weeks in advance. Rest assured that we will honor the day and time of your choosing as our calendar never fills up and nobody gets turned away.
Please reach out to the cemetery of your choice to arrange a time for placement. Placements are made Monday through Saturday with no Sunday services taking place

A person must be placed at the cemetery where the inscription will be for the year of death to be inscribed.

Can an outside florist be arraigned to deliver flowers to my loved one’s space?

Yes. If a florist is delivering flowers to a location in the cemetery, they must place them directly at your loved one’s site. Florists may contact the cemetery office for assistance with maps or to confirm the location. Please note that the cemetery office cannot accept or hold flowers for placement.

We offer a service called Lift and Level. For a fee of $50 per marker, our cemetery grounds team will visit the site to lift, level, topsoil, and reseed around the marker. This service includes a five-year guarantee. If your flat marker sinks again within the time, you may contact the office, and it will be re-lifted and re-leveled at no additional cost.

Stolen or missing vases are not replaced by the cemetery. Families may stop by or call the office to purchase a replacement.
